Asserting Her Art: Michelle Rio's Struggle to Get There

Michelle Ann Rio has been in the dance and entertainment industry for ten years. Her staying power is incredible as she has faced almost all trials to get to where she is now. Michelle is ultimately a writer; she has been writing songs since she was ten years old to express her emotions and experiences instead of keeping a diary. During her grade school days, she was the one who creates small plays and writes the scripts. In high school, she was part of both the glee club and theater club. Michelle has also attended acting, voice and modeling workshops all at ABS-CBN Star Magic.

She was also training in dance under Marc Dungo of Slimmers World when she was in high school. She almost got close to her earlier dream of becoming an actress when she got to study at ABS-CBN Distance Learning Center. Yet, she continued on to college at the University of Sto. Tomas, took up AB Philosophy, as she was determined then to become a lawyer. However, after college, she pursued writing for Ironpinoy Magazine and Dance Pinoy Online Magazine. Dance Pinoy became her window to more opportunities in events, entertainment and talent management. Michelle attended a jazz dance workshop under Douglas Nierras Powerdance, as somehow she knew it was in the dance industry that she will excel.

And today, Michelle has her own organization, PLAYHOUSE Production, which is in partnership with the multi-awarded youth and cultural advocacy organization, Juan Makasining Youth Artists Network. She also manages M3G, an all-girl singing and dancing group. Currently taking on a more spiritual path, Michelle is now starting to be known as a tarot card reader and intuitive counselor. Truly a multi-disciplinary artist, she also participates performance art once in a while. Now, embarking on a new journey as a play-arts workshop facilitator, no one can fit any better as for the challenges she went through in Asserting Her Art.
